If you ever saw the famous illustration entitled Susu girls, it’s Jae Suk Kim who actually created it. And if many fashion designers have contemplation, so is Kim. He has particularly the same idea in his stylish paintings. About the Susu girls, these imaginative figures wear beautiful gowns fantasized by Kim.
When painting using water-based media, Kim will have bright ideas as to create the ethereal garments with vibrant explosions of color. Here, he usually lets his pigment flow freely over the canvas, taking on the subtle edges as if they’re just a bunch of lightweight fabric or feathers.
According to Kim as he wrote in his blog on painting the Susu girls, he said, “I add shapes, lines and textures spontaneously to create an abstract and fluid form to represent couture-like dresses. I squeeze water droplets from the brush, then watercolors are added onto these droplets.”
