Amazing Mandala Pattern and Texture on Stone

The Sanskrit meaning of mandala is circle. The circle is a symbol of perfection, eternity, unity and completeness. Given these meanings, it’s no wonder mandalas are such important symbols in all cultures.

Mandalas are incredibly versatile and can personify any number of meanings for the viewer. The meaning each mandala holds is limited only by the creator and the observer.

Lina W has taught herself how to paint these 3D mandala stones in one week. Each one has around 2000 dots on the top of each other. Sometimes it takes as much as 10 layers to achieve the 3D effect. Texture in painting on stone is the look and feel of the canvas. It is based on the paint, and its application, or the addition of materials such as ribbon, metal, wood, lace, leather and sand. The concept of ‘painterliness’ also has bearing on texture. The texture stimulates two different senses; sight and touch. There are four types of texture in art: actual texture, simulated texture, abstract texture, and invented texture.
