Artist Uses the Heat of the Sun to Etch Pyrography Drawings

Filipines artist Jordan Mang-osan used the power of the sun to make striking pyrography drawings. The artist, who is an Igorot ethnic originating from the mountainous region of Cordilleras, lives close to his roots by working with original raw materials and focusing on subjects that celebrate the rich heritage of his people and country.

After sketching out the design, Mang-osan used a magnifying glass to focus the sun's heat on certain areas. Etch heat darkens dark lines into wood, producing beautiful landscapes or intricate portraits. Mang-osan's patience and skill were evident in his artwork, because he had to manipulate a magnifying glass and sunlight carefully to etch every intricate detail for several months.
