It is this artist by the name of Katharine Morling who creates these imaginative sculptures measuring life-size filled with playful energy. Viewers mostly think that her sculptures are made of paper but in fact, they are just ceramic. Look closely now.
With her creative insight, Morling is able to use ceramics as a unique medium to bring her various animals and inanimate beings into life.
Usually, to start with, she would make sketches in order to get some ideas, and as soon as she feels she got enough inspiration from her sketches, she would then continue with the execution of her piece. She would mold and shape every detail of her piece out of clay.
With her skill of hand-building method, she can turn the clay into something as drawn in her sketch paper. She said, "The idea develops like a sketch in front of you."
As soon as she is done with one piece, Morling makes outline on the edges and details with black ink. If everything goes as planned, her ceramic piece can come up to be like drawings that have taken on 3D shape.
She said, "Each piece, on the surface, an inanimate object, has been given layers of emotion and embedded with stories, which are open for interpretation in the viewer’s mind."
