Nothing is new on the internet, which can sometimes force people to do the most absurd things to go viral. Especially if your livelihood depends on the number hits you manage to get on your channel. Some of these attention-grabbing efforts have backfired on people, like what happened to a live-streaming host in China, who was left shocked and terrified after trying to eat an octopus alive.
The 50-second video was filmed by a blogger who is popularly known as 'seaside girl Little Seven'. The livestreamer, originally from the city of Lianyungang is known for her passion for eating seafood. Her profile on Kuaishou, a popular media sharing app in China, includes several videos of herself eating a variety of cooked seafood.
In previous videos, the woman can be seen eating crayfish and lobsters, but her ultimate goal was to become internet-famous. In fact, she made it clear in her previous clip that all she was after was virality, complaining about why none of her clips end up on the 'trending topics chart'.
But with her latest stunt, she bit off a little too much than what she could chew. Or at least, she tried to!
The clip actually starts off with the octopus latched on to her face, but the woman remains calm. She can be heard telling her fans that the creature is sucking hard as she tries to pry it off her upper lip. The woman even promises viewers that she was going to eat the creature in her next video.
Things soon spiral out of control when the woman realized that the eight-legged creature was firmly attached to her face and that it was getting increasingly hard to get it off. She even gets increasingly panicked by the fact that the octopus didn't budge that easily from her face.
Octopus uses their tentacles to catch prey or defend themselves from potential attacks, so naturally, the octopus tried to defend itself from being eaten alive. The video host soon starts freaking out and crying when she realizes that the eight-legged creature wasn't letting go.
At one point of the video, she pulls at the eight-legged creature so hard that it actually distorts her face. After battling with the creature for a while, she finally manages to pull it off her face and tells her viewers that she'll eat it in her next video.
But the woman soon realizes that the eight-legged sea creature left a bloody wound on her face thanks to its extreme suction capabilities. Realizing this, she cries: "My face is disfigured." In an ironic twist, after complaining about not trending, the woman's octopus snafu is now a trending topic on many Chinese social media platforms.
