If you dread putting together furniture, it’s time to rejoice. IKEA has created new snap together furniture! IKEA introduced a series of snap together furniture like that of a jigsaw puzzle for those who are not savvy in furniture construction.
It’s almost always that constructing and assembling a piece of furniture can be a frustrating experience. But because of this IKEA products on the market, you don’t have to worry about getting misplaced screws and other little fasteners during your build. IKEA developed a new type of joint to make this tool-less design a reality, Such a joint is called a wedge dowel (ikea.today/story-of-the-wedge-dowel), which is specifically meant for wooden products.
When you want to assemble a table, for instance, you have to insert a small ribbed knob at the top of its leg, which is then inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the tabletop. No glue is needed and it can be taken apart and reassembled multiple times without damaging the dowel.
Earlier this year, Ikea put a Lisabo table to go on sale. The special wedge dowel is the first to include. The Lisabo table, which went on sale earlier this year, is the first to include the wedge dowel. It makes a huge difference in assemble times.
This special design was initially introduced in 2014—as a test of concept—in the Regissör storage products and Stockholm cabinets. IKEA intends to incorporate the system into other pieces because there’s proof that it really works.
Jesper Brodin, IKEA’s range and supply manager told Dezeen,“I actually put together a table, which used to take me 24 minutes to assemble but now can just take me three minutes to click together.”
IKEA is saving money on supplying all the metal fasteners. This deluge of material is often a turnoff for customers, as well as a waste in resources.
By incorporating the wedge dowel, you’re saving your time. IKEA recognized the fact that it included a lot of little fittings with each of their products.
