Hand-Cut Paper Sculpture for Microbiological Sublime

Rogan Brown’s sculpture called Outbreak is really of the microbiological beauty. And this particular hand cut piece was completed in an unbelievable result which took him more than four months.

All white shapes are in accordance to the tiny constructions in the human body. While, brown represents cells, microbes, pathogens and neurons, diligently chopping and coating papers bit by bit until the whole sculpture is completely done.

In reality, Outbreak is just a stark work, but doesn’t disagree with the ability of creativity. Brown says, “I am inspired in part by the tradition of scientific drawing and model making, and particularly the work of artist-scientists such as Ernst Haeckel,”

“But although my approach involves careful observation and detailed “scientific” preparatory drawings, these are always superseded by the work of the imagination; everything has to be refracted through the prism of the imagination, estranged and in some way transformed.”
