Guan Yu was a really famous general in Chinese history. Being deified as a war God, his humongous statue stands tall in his hometown.
Guan Yu lived during China’s turbulent period of Three Kingdoms. As one of the best Chinese historical figures, he is respected as an epitome of loyalty and righteousness. Because of this, he was later deified and is still worshipped by many Chinese people today especially in the Southern region.
Now his statue weighing over 1,320 tons, 58 m tall, containing over 4,000 bronze strips has recently been unveiled in a park which was named after him, Guan Yu Park in Jingzhou, China. His typical weapon looking like an axe called Green Dragon Crescent Blade was also part of the statue. This epic statue was designed by Han Meilin, as he also designed the 2008 Beijing Olympic mascots. The monument is so huge that a museum of 8,000sqm is set inside it. Do you think that this statue is really epic?
