She also released an apology video soon after.
Recently a vegan influencer was discovered lying to the world about her healthy habits. While this female went around preaching about the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle, she was found eating fish. She was able to convince the world that her diet plans really worked but this discovery caused an outrage that she never expected. Soon after she released an apology video which didn't really help.
Yovana Mendoza Ayres who made a career out of her weight loss routine failed to justify herself. After watching her apology video, people couldn't help but think that she is delusional. Some of the things she said in her 33-minute long video weren't very helpful in clearing out the mess she had created for herself. Yovana's attempt to 'clear things out' backfired when she revealed the dark side of her vegan lifestyle.
Yovana chose to live on a raw vegan diet six years ago. In the due course, she also went on a 25-day water fasting where she had nothing but water for 25 days! She said how good and conscious she felt after but also confessed about losing her period. After two years of not having her period, Yovana looked into its side-effects and realized how unhealthy it was. After a few tests and visits to a doctor, she was informed that "her hormones were out of whack."
Her symptoms pointed towards a pre-menopausal condition which really freaked her out. In spite of this serious condition, she felt really good which was weird. Instead of ignoring these symptoms, this influencers decided to change a diet by increasing her fat intake by adding salt and eating cooked food. After two months of "healing," she got her period which was pretty irregular. She decided to be patient with her body and give it the required amount of time to heal.
After a year of untimely periods, it stopped altogether for five months straight. It was already 2017 and there was no improvement in her hormones and she wasn't ovulating and was"basically anemic." Doctors recommended her testosterone and thyroid pills and suggested the consumption of eggs. But she was adamant about sticking to her plant-based diet. When she was asked to gain a few pounds she took iron supplements which were advised by a few health professionals who were her friends. Finally, things started falling back into place and she gained 6 pounds and also got her period back.
In April 2018 she started feeling a lot more exhausted after shooting her videos. Working out every day too took a lot more effort. She kept ignoring the symptoms yet again thinking it was caused due to all the traveling she did. In July she noticed some painful cuts on her vagina and after a visit to the doctor she was diagnosed with Candidal Vaginitis.
Talking about the other problems in her video she says, "I was getting very, very bloated from basically everything that I ate. I was feeling constipated. I was getting diarrhea. I was having a lot of gasses, a lot of burbs.” She had succumbed to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) which took a toll on her body and forced her to switch to a balanced diet. The vegan influencer says, "I thought about the fact that I was a woman and I want to bring a baby into this world … if I’m not good how can I expect to bring a child into this world? Yovana thought about her options and decided to start consuming animal products."
She did keep a secret from all her followers but that's not what ticked these people off. Ayres continues to sell her pricey vegan meals, challenges and plans on her website even after all she had to go through. She continued preaching people to follow and buy her lifestyles, "I wasn’t considering all of the options and for me, it was now an option, I was seeing it as an option. And that’s exactly why I haven’t shared it with you, because for me it’s still an experiment, for me it’s still a process, I’m still figuring it out. I’m not gonna sit in front of the camera and tell you like, ‘oh, I’ve been eating eggs and fish for the past two months and everything is better and everything is good, and the plant-based diet doesn’t work.’ No. I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying that I’m trying to figure it out." What really blows our mind is the fact that she is still asking people to follow a plan that failed miserably for her.
This is the video that exposed her.
She posted this apology video later.
